Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at B2 level.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the upper-intermediate level and communicate in the language fluently.
Syllabus
  • The syllabus includes: speaking activities, reading comprehension, writing narratives, listening comprehension
  • Interaction: Students will participate in weekly activities and complete work outside of class in the coursebook and on Moodlinka / IS.
  • Gold First, units 1 - 6, revision of verb forms, word formation, verb patterns, comparing, verb forms in the narrative, perfect tenses, articles, countable and uncountable nouns, passive forms, future forms.
  • Topics: Music, family, happiness, survival, food, entertainment

Teaching methods
Autumn 2020:
- online seminars: class discussion, pair work, group work, brainstorming

Assessment methods
The general pass mark for this course is 70 points which includes both the continuous assessment and the final test.
The continuous assessment consists of:
- an in-class oral presentation (10 points)
- journal entries (30 points)
The final exam consists of:
- a written test (30 points, pass mark 70%)
- an oral exam (30 points, pass mark 70%).

Students have to prepare for lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
