Course objectives
Geoinformatics and geoinformation technologies include, in particular, geographic information systems, remote sensing of the Earth, and global navigation systems used for a number of useful rescue services, for the creation of maps, field orientation, cadastre management, or for scientific experimentation. Understanding geographic information and geographic data, searching, displaying, interpreting and using it in practical life, in science and in education is a necessary part of the training of geographic education professionals. The seminars focus on the development of skills in geoinformation technologies freely accessible via the Internet, such as map servers, portals depicting aeronautical and satellite data, satellite and radar animation applications and smartphone applications. The course includes the analysis of geographic information, geographic data in geography teaching, presentations of current school practice related to this topic, examples of recommended practice, examples of methodological and working sheets supporting the development of pupils' skills. The students are going to: - acquire the basics of the theory necessary for working with geographic data, the ability to search and interpret geographic data, - Understand the principles of working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the use of GIS in practice, including the possibilities for use in the educational process, - Understand and be able to explain the usage of web map servers with examples of their application in geography teaching, acquire basic theories of Earth Remote Sensing, including their input data: satellite and aerial imagery - Learn to interpret satellite data and use them effectively in teaching of geography, - master the basic theory of global positioning systems, - work with map servers with understanding, - work with ArcGIS on-line software, - work with Google Earth with understanding, - visually interpret satellite and aeronautical data,
