Course objectives
This lecture shall help the students to win theoretical knowledge of the lexicology and word forming. They use this knowledge in the work on the seminar. The main topics: phraseology in the various style spheres of the Czech language, contemporary tendency of the development of Czech vocabulary and word forming (new Czech vocabulary of English origin, adaptation). Proper names. The topics of the lecture are theoretical base for the practical exercises in the seminary of the subject ZS1BP_CjC4. That is pressupossed the students after finishing the course: - know the norms of classification of contemporary Czech vocabulary;
- are able to explain tendency of the development and changes in contemporary vocabulary;
- can identify Czech language means for word-forming process;
- know the rules for word-forming analyse of Czech words.
Syllabus
  • 1. Lexikology in the linguistic system. Lexicology and word forming in relationship in the Czech language system and in the Czech language teaching in the primary school.
  • 2. Word and names. Types names: words, phraseologism, groups of words. 3. Levels (groups of words) in the Czech vocabulary and in various styles of Czech language. 4. Phraseology in Czech language. Phraseologism, idiom. Alternation of phraseologism and non-phraseologism in the Czech texts.
  • 5. Stratification of Czech vocabulary.
  • 6. Increasing of Czech vocabulary. Loanwords in the Czech vocabulary in the history and in the contemporary language development.
  • 7. Semantic relations in the vocabulary. Synonyms. Antonyms. Hyponyms. Hyperonyms.
  • 8. Proper names in Czech language, its characteristic and functions. Antroponyms. Names and Surnames, the origin of the name a surname and their historical development.
  • 9. Toponyms (place names). Types of toponyms.
  • 10. The other types of the proper names. Proper names in Czech language teaching in primary school.
  • 11. Word-formation in Czech language. Fundamental terminology. motivated (built) and non-motivated (non-built) words.
  • 12. Types of word forming in the Czech language. Productivity of the suffix, prefix, of the composition and abbreviation.
  • 13. Semantic categories in Word forming, the suffix- and prefix types in the semantic categories.
  • 14. Tendency of the contemporary Czech vocabulary and word forming in the Czech language.

Ending of course: Credit
Credit requirements: Mastering of the topics of syllabus; It is prooved by written examination in the end of the term. The written examination includes 20 elementary questions, to be successfull the student has to answer 80 % of them correctly.
