Course objectives
The aim of the course is to expand and deepen communication skills of students with children and at the same time to develop communication skills usable for effective communication with adults (parents, colleagues and other professionals). The specific goal of this course is to develop the skills necessary to provide peer support for professional development in schools (eg mentoring). The course is connected with the course Pedagogical Practice.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: - be familiar with the basic types of communication; - understand the basic building blocks of effective communication; - critically reflect on one's own way of communication; - identify individual phases of the GROW model and conduct a development mentoring interview with its help; - explain the principles and possibilities of mentoring in education.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the topic of communication (verbal, nonverbal, paraverbal), the influence of communication on the child's development (motivation, support, child behavior). 2. Use of video for the reflection of communication skills, which means the method of video training of interactions, building blocks of communication (attention). 3. Building blocks of communication (tuning, initiatives, distribution of attention). 4. Listening, directing (signals in communication). Tuned leadership (the level of support of the other). 5. Introduction to mentoring in education, mentoring in the context of education. 6. Understanding the role of mentor and mentee, building a mentoring relationship, phases of the mentoring relationship. 7. Objectives of mentoring, benefits of mentoring for mentee, mentor, for organization, ethics in mentor's work 8. Mentor skills, use of GROW model in mentoring. 9. Active listening and conducting a mentoring conversation. 10. Providing feedback in mentoring. 11. Reflections on mentoring conversation. 12. Reflection of communicative competence.
