Course objectives
The lecture builds on the morphological knowledge of the language with topics related to the composition of the language. The lecture provides a theoretical interpretation of questions further trained and deepened in the seminar to understand the structure of the French language. The aim of the course is to enable the students to understand the composition of the French sentence, its specifics, the function of the word types in the sentence members and the conformity of the subject with the hypothesis; to further analyze sentences in coordinate and subordinate relationships and to explain the word order in individual types of sentences.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to: dominate terminology necessary for syntax analysis of sentences; understand the structure of clauses and sentences based on the relation of syntax and morphology; demonstrate procedures used in syntax analysis; define types of sentences; reproduce sentence membres and word order; analyse typology of utterance.
Syllabus
  • Proposal and sentence. Species of proposals. Procedures used in syntax analysis: parts of the speech and their functions as members of the proposal. Proposals for one or two term(s). Order of words in sentence. Simple inversion and complex inversion of the subject. Omission of subject. Coordinated proposal phrases (juxtaposition, coordination). Subordinate proposal phrases (subordination). Species of subordinate proposals. Completive subordinate clauses. Related subordinate proposals.
