The course is primarily intended for MUNI PHARM students. In case of free capacity, students of other faculties can also apply. The course will be taught in Czech.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get to know the basic techniques for managing stressful situations for (not only) students of the pharmacy program in various environments from study to work and personal. The course will also support the integration of non-formal education methods in the teaching of university science-oriented disciplines, increase students' pro-activity, support their social feelings and help students prevent mental overload or burnout.
Learning outcomes
The outcomes of the course depend on the degree of personal involvement of individual students and their willingness to use the methods and techniques acquired in their lives. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to use many specific techniques and methods, including: - be able to use various breathing techniques and self-reflective techniques of mindfulness; - will be aware of their recurring patterns of behavior and thinking traps into which they fall and will be able to work consciously with them; - will be able to observe various situations in their lives from different perspectives and will know how to approach them effectively and consciously work with them
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the topic of stress - What is it? How does it arise and how does it manifest? What are the forms? Stress from studying 2. Working under stress, possibilities of coping with stress, principles of Mindfulness 3. Influence of past and future, thought patterns, breathing techniques 4. Thought traps, meditation with food, time and its effect on stress 5. Body-scan, movement and its effect on stress, positive thinking and affirmations 6. Final colloquium

Teaching methods
Active participation (individually or in groups) through communication, confrontational, (self) reflective and relaxation exercises and activities with subsequent debriefing.
Assessment methods
Credit is awarded for proactive participation in seminars, fulfillment of attendance (max. 1 absence allowed with sufficient justification), participation in the final colloquium and evaluation of the entire course.
