Course objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will have a general knowledge of the Ancient Near East, Aegean cultures in Europe and the Ancient Greece; he will be able to evaluate the importance of archeology for the research of these civilisations; he will be able to avelauate the importance of history for analyse of archeological evidence; he will have a knowledge of important archeological monuments of ancient Near East
Syllabus
  • 1) The turning points of the ancient history; ancient letteres. 2) Chronology of the ancient history; types of the state, classical and oriental slavery. 3) The state, society, religion and culture of Sumerians. 4) The other empires of Mesopotamia.The monuments of material culture of Mesopotamia. 5) The state, society, religion and culture of Ancient Egypt. 6) The monuments of material culture of Egypt. 7) The importance of archeology for knowledge about the oldest ancient civilizations on the territory of Europe. 8) The archeology and the dark ages of Greece. 9 The development of poleis in archaic epoch of Greece. 10) Athens on the way from oligarchy to democracy. 11) Sparta and its society of equal citizens. 12) Classical period of the history of Greece and its monuments. 13) Crisis of poleis and the supremacy of Macedonia; Hellenism.
