Course objectives
At the ebd of this course student will be familiar with the history of ancient Rome; he will be able to use these knowledge especially for the research of the Roman period and of the period of great migration of peoples in our country; will be able to evaluate archeological evidence with the help of written sources; to analyse the archeological evidence by the help of historical knowledge
Syllabus
  • 1)The origins of Rome. The tribal society in the archaic period of Rome. Patricians and common people (plebei). 2) Government and society of Roman republic, the wars of this age, the living. The struggles of "plebei" concerning the same rights with the patricians. 3)Crisis of the republic. 4) The beginnings of principate. 5)Material and spiritual culture during the epoch of principate. 6) Rome and our territory in the time of the rule of Augustus and Tiberius. 7) Roman provinces during the epoch of republic and kaisership. 8)The Marcomanian wars. 9) The deep crisis of Roman Empire (3rd century A.C.) 10) Roman state and society during the absolutism. 11) The decline of ancient living, the beginnings of feudalism. 12) The Roman state and the Christianity. 13)Rome, barbarians and the barbarian kingdoms on the territory of the Roman West.
