Course objectives
The purpose of the seminar is to inform students about the colonization of the Czech- moravian uplands and the exploitation of gold and silver therein. On completion of this course students will have gained knowledge of colonization and settlement with the exception of the " old settlement", as well as knowledge of montane archeology, within the model area of the Czech- moravian uplands.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction.
  • 2. Enviromental conditions of the region.
  • 3. Prehistoric use of highly situated locations with the reference to the Czech- moravian uplands.
  • 4. Internal colonization in the 12 th and first half of the 13 th century.
  • 5. Town locations / Jihlava as an example/.
  • 6. Gold exploatation in prehistory and middle ages.
  • 7. Silver mining in Jihlava – general thesis.
  • 8. Mining agglomeration Jihlava Staré Hory. Prospection, silver mining and metallurgy.
  • 9. Mining agglomeration Jihlava Staré Hory - wooden buildings and problems ot their interpretations.
  • 10. Silver metallurgy in city of Jihlava.
