Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce experimental archaeology to students (e.g. recent research questions and the possibilities of answering them with modern methods). Students will get the opportunity to learn basic material-working skills (i.e. ceramics) and traditional production technologies at practical workshops.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, student will be able to:
- have good orientation in the field of experimental archaeology
- draw up and carry out his/her own archaeological experiment, define the research task and critically evaluate the results
- use the knowledge of experimental archaeology (e.g. operational sequence in production of various types of artefacts) in processing of archaeological material or in search for answers to theoretical questions of archaeology
- use experimental archaeology as a popularisation tool

  • 2-3 workshops at the science and research base in Panská Lhota
  • familiarisation with the field of experimental archaeology
  • experimental pottery production
  • other experiments: cooking and baking, woodworking, metal working
