Course objectives
Within the course, students will practice their digital skills, acquired during the study in the course Digital Excavation through Learning and Training in Archeology A, within a five-day intensive study program, in joint excavations in Marathon (Greece). Gradually, they will learn the principles of methods used not only for the purposes of archaeological prospecting and field research, but also get acquainted with the tools used for the needs of protection of monument, experimental archeology or presentation of archaeological cultural heritage.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - choose the appropriate procedure of selected digital methods and tools during excavation; - control instrumentation and software during excavation; - make on-site digital documentation - capture in photographs the key contexts on site - enter the information on terrain contexts, finds and samples into a database - compare and summarize the advantages and disadvantages of individual methods in practice; - analyze and interpret the obtained data; - generate outputs.
Syllabus
  • Upon completion of the course AES_811 (Digital Excavation through Learning and Training in Archaeology A) students will take part in a 5-day practice. Its date will be established during the summer semester.

Participation in archaeological fieldwork in Marathon, Greece
Assessment methods
During the excavations students are supposed to participate actively and individually in preparation, documentation and exploitation of archaeological find contexts.
