Course objectives
The seminar will look at the art of drama writing through both textual analysis and practical writing skills exercises, the readers' theatre and building scenes. Several plays by contemporary British, Irish and American playwrights will be read (e.g. Arthur Miller, Tom Stoppard, John Guare, Tina Howe, Alan Ayckbourn, Brian Friel, A.R. Guerney); the topics discussed include exposition and conflict, theme (issue-based drama), monologue (radio play), devised pieces and adaptations, sound effects, time and pace, language and rhythm, alternative perspectives and off-stage action.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Assessment: 25% will be awarded for attendance, 25% for class work and 50% for the final project, which may either be an essay or a script.
