Cíle předmětu
The course will consider aspects in the main genres of literature ( poetry, drama, novel, short story) from the perspective of comparative analysis, focusing on twentieth century and predominantly, often exclusively, on post-1945 works of literature. Authors whose work is considered in this year's course include: Graham Swift, Ian McEwan, Martin Amis, Philip Larkin, J.H. Prynne, Tony Harrison , Peter Reading, Pat Barker, Penelope Lively, Angela Carter, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, Brian Friel, Hanif Kureishi, Kazuo Ishiguro and John Berger.

Metody hodnocení
Preparation for the course: students should read at least two of the works listed for each session and be prepared to compare the approaches of the writers covered.Assessment for the course will take the form of one essay of 8-12 pages comparing aspects of either two or three of the works covered in a given seminar (40%), three response papers (500-800 words)relating to works discussed in three of the seminars (30%) and oral participation/attendance (30%)
