Course objectives
To get hands-on experience with real-life translations through being assigned and delivering translations for Aspena translation agency, while getting and profiting from feedback from the agency's quality checkers.
The specific goals include:
- estimating one's abilities regarding specific translation projects on offer through the agency's system
- translating and delivering quality within deadlines
- experiencing quality assessment and feedback from players in the industry (as opposed to academic feedback)

Syllabus
  • First two weeks of the semester: a meeting with a representative of Aspena agency, access to relevant systems for work assignment/sharing, specification of conditions (minimum word limit, payment, etc.) for the given semester.
  • In the semester: the student will accept/own/deliver translation jobs specified in the work assignment system up to a required word limit for the semester and receive feedback from the quality checkers employed by the agency.
Teaching methods
Individual and shared translation projects; terminology searches; use of CAT Tools; working with a company job assignment system.
Assessment methods
Evaluation will be based on meeting assigned parameters of translation jobs (including deadlines) and feedback from company quality checkers.
