The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Both logic and argumentation play a significant role in contemporary society. The course focuses on the bare essentials of the corresponding theory/knowledge and underlying methods/techniques. It is a practical-skills oriented course.

  • detection of formal and informal drawbacks of argumentation and justification
  • assesment of logical and even extra-logical aspects of argumentation
  • application of logical techniques in other areas

    • logic
    • argumentation and logic: basic concepts;
    • truth, form and validity;
    • natural deduction;
    • logical consequence;
    • predication and quantification;
    • equivalences and contradictories;
    • syllogisms;

    • theory of argumentation
    • identification: dialectical phases and roles;
    • reconstruction: simple and complex arguments;
    • evaluation: sound arguments and fallacies;

    Teaching methods
    This is an e-course
  • each week there is an e-lesson in e-class (MS Teams)
  • each e-lesson explains the theory/technique and its application
  • consultations included in e-lessons (video/chat)
  • after each e-lesson a short e-test ('ROPOT') as a homework
  • Interactive syllabi contain (for each lesson):
  • text explaining each problem + method of its solution
  • exercises via e-tests
  • video/chat consultation
  • links to supporting external text/video materials
  • Homeworks:
  • regular on-line exercises (short e-tests on each subject)
  • Assessment methods
  • Accomplished homeworks, i.e. regular short e-tests (33%)
  • Participation in e-classes (33%)
  • Final e-test (34%)
  • - similar to regular e-tests
  • - selection of the crucial topics/techniques of the e-course
  • in each of the three parts, one must achieve at least 66% (i.e. visit 8 of 12 e-classes, successfuly pass 8 of 12 homeworks/e-tests, fill correctly the final e-test at least from 66%)
