Course objectives
Diachronic view over territory of Serbo-Croatian language, or Central South-Slavonic diasystem, or Serbian/Croatian standard language. Territory of shtokavian, chakavian and kaykavian dialects. Glagolic literary tradition. Changes that led to establishment of new shtokavian and margalization of chakavian and kaykavian dialects. Development of standard Croatian, the period of Serbo-Croatian language and problems with the standartisation of standard Serboan Croatian language in 20. century. Questions about standard Bosnian and standard Montenegrin language. At the end of the course students will - be able to demonstrate the knowledge of Serbian/Croatian. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of linguistics. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of Slavonic languages - be familiar with Slavonic grammar - contrast and compare Czech and Serbian/Croatian languages

  • 1. The last stage of Old Church Slavonic language, profilation of the languages from phonetical and morphological point of view. 2. Glagolian literary tradition at the Croatians, 3. Church Slavonic period at the Serbs. 4. Golden age of Croatian literature - the period of Dubrovnic rennesaince and baroque literature 5. Development in the 18. century, ikavian-shtokavian and kajkavian Croatian. 6. Russian Slavonic and Slavenoserbian period of Serbian language. 7. 19. century: ilyrian movement at the Croatians, 8. Vuk S. Karadžić at the Serbs. 9. Relationships between the Serbian and Croatian, attempts for common language - Serbo-Croatian. 10. Development in the first half of 20. century . 11. Development in the second half of 20. century. 12. Affirmation of Bosnian standard language and Montenegrian standard language.
