Course objectives
In this seminar we are going to focus on teaching children-foreigners and children growing up in our country with a different mother tongue from the preschool age to adulthood. We will develop the theoretical knowledge we gained in the lecture Introduction into teaching Czech as a second/foreign language and by transferring it into practice. We will get acquainted with what, when and how should we teach, what teaching and methodology materials are available and which didactic principles we should adopt. Attention will be paid to language testing and evaluation and to the possibilities of language diagnostics in preschool age. Through the communication with experts we will see how language support and teaching of children-foreigners and pupils-foreigners (or children and pupils with different mother tongues) works in different areas (i. e. language courses, school system, NG0s, state integration programme etc.).
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- use adequate teaching practices and activities for specific target groups;
- create educational and diagnostic materials;
- use tools such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the European Language Portfolio;
- have an overview of the available methodological materials and further education opportunities;
- have an overview of online technologies that can be used in teaching Czech as a foreign language;
- be able to plan and implement a lesson;
- be able to give and receive feedback;
- to realize the importance of self-reflection and self-development.
