Course objectives
The course deals with the relationships between literary and film works. Thorough interpretation of a literary work and its film version will constitute the essential part of the seminar. The participants will trace the film adaptative methods, shifts of both meaning and style, differences in narrative techniques and treatment of time, aesthetical structures of the literary text and film, social function of the work etc. Six film-projections will be part of the seminar.
Syllabus
  • Seminars will focus on these literary and film works: Kytice (Erben, Brabec), Babička (Němcová, Čáp), Markéta Lazarová (Vančura, Vláčil), Spalovač mrtvol (Fuks, Herz), Smrt krásných srnců (Pavel, Kachyňa), Zapomenuté světlo (Deml, Michálek).
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Ukončeno zápočtem; požadavky: seminární práce, účast a četba interpretovaných knih.
