Course objectives
Course description. The seminar will mainly focus on the interpretation of particular collections of poems and it will also show the literary development of the 90's. It is taken for granted that all those interested in taking part in this seminar have an elementary knowledge of the literature of the period and are familiar with literary periodicals. A precondition for being awarded credits for this seminar are presentation of a paper (interpretation) and writing down an essay or literary criticism on a theme agreed upon with the lecturer.

  • Syllabus: 1. A brief account of the literary works of those authors publishing in the 70's and 80's. 2. The appearance of a new generation in the first half of the decade. 3. Literary magazines and publishing houses. 4. Literary criticism and reception, the presentation of poetry by media. 5. Pavel Kolmačka and Martin Josef Stöhr. 6. Petr Borkovec and Tomáš Reichel. 7. Bogdan Trojak and Miloš Doležal. 8. Petr Hruška and Petr Motýl. 9. Bohdan Chlíbec and Ewald Murrer. 10. Božena Správcová, Pavel Petr and Martin Langer. 11. Petr Čichoň and Jaromír F. Typlt. 12. Poetry of the second half of the decade. 13. New prose of the second half of the decade.
