Course objectives
From the manuscript to the book (history of reading, publishing, editing) The seminar will aim to give students deeper look to the "alchemic process" of making a book and to inform them about different editing practices and strategies in detailed context of cultural history. In common discussions well evaluate the production of outstanding Czech publishers (Torst, Host, Atlantis, Vetus Via, Česká knižnice) from artistic, intellectual and publishing point of view. We will examine particular editors procedures. The essays which the students will choose from foreign specialized literature will be dealing with questions of copyright, censoring, "universe of book" and its function in our society or with differences between a classic and an electronic text.
