Course objectives
The seminar introduces the main issues and concepts of Russian and Central European Formalism to the students. We will pay close attention to the works of Jakobson, Propp,Šklovskij and Lotman. Part of the seminar will also be devoted to interpretation of particular theoretical and artistic texts. The aims of the course are following: to introduce main literary theoretical approaches and strategies of Russian and Central European Formalism to the students to provide the students with elementary terms from the fields literary theory, to teach the students the basic strategies useful for interpreting scholarly and artistic texts.
