Course objectives
The course focuses on getting basic knowledge in the develepment and methods of literary criticism and also on getting practical skills when dealing with literary texts. The first few lessons of the course will be conducted as lectures in which general issues and history of Czech literary criticism will be introduced to students. Then the students will be divided into seminar groups where they will analyse particular essays and subsequently will write their own ones. The final seminars will be devoted to individiual discussions over the students` texts. At the end of this course, students should be able to define diferences between literary criticism, essays and reviews;
to explain the history of Czech literary criticism;
to explaine the types and methodes of literary criticism;
to interpret literary criticism text;
to create review.
