Course objectives
An optional seminar designed for those interested in creative translation of different genres and text functions from Czech and into Czech. The main stress will be laid on work with Czech and German texts. The participants will be working mainly with examples of journalistic, literary and commercial texts that will demonstrate the variety of problems and will enable to try different solutions in translating problematic features.
Syllabus
  • The seminar will concentrate on these themes: The function of the source text and its translation, Necessary and possible shifts in text function due to translation, Correction of errors, Socio-cultural context, Terminology, Slang and foreign languages in text, Phonetic side of the text, Graphic side of the text, Different forms of authorial translation and its different aims. The participants in the seminar will attempt to use different techniques of creating and revising the text: Creating formations in the target language, Brainstorming, brainwriting and clustering in translation, Playful word composition, Scenic composition of translation, Translating in pairs.

Požadavky k zápočtu: Překladové verze tvoření cílového textu v písemné podobě dle práce v kursu; resp. analýza překladu dle domluvy; aktivní účast v kursu. Termín odevzdání: do konce semestru.
