Course objectives
The course is dealing with theatre functioning in Czechoslovakia in the 50s. It pays attention to all theatre fields (dramaturgy, directing, acting, scenography, music etc.). Theatre events are viewed in context of pre-war and war development. One of the aims is to name contemporary artistic tendencies and functioning of theatre.

The course is held in Czech.
Learning outcomes

At the end of the course student will be able to:
- name pre-war theatre tedencies and cultural movements;
- understand change of paradigm in post-war theatre;
- describe principles of socialistic realism in theatre;
- describe social and political events influencing theatre development;
- analyse dramaturgy of the 50s and chosen contemporary performaces.

  • Builder's drama - searching for new drama
  • Clash of realistic and avant-garde tendencies (in acting)
  • Reign of director or Bad attitude towards author
  • Poetics of socialist realism and possible ways around it
  • Time-dependency of critical art reviewing
