Course objectives
To get acquainted with the daily life in the Roman Republic and in the Empire. To be able to properly use and translate terms from different areas of Roman private life; to judge and consult the correct use of so-called private realia in literature, film etc.
The student will have the knowledge of the Roman way of life, which will help him/her to better comprehend the development of Roman history and Roman thinking. He/she will be able to critically evaluate the use of Roman realia in various works of art and educational programmes.

Teaching methods
Familiarization with aforesaid areas through lectures and reading samples, taken especially from poetry, drama, private correspondence, satire, ancient novel. In fictive dialogues students will strive e.g. to arrange a Roman wedding, arrange a house, compile a menu and cultural programme for a banquet, describe problems of Roman farmer during the year etc. In images they will identify individual house equipment, parts of garment etc.
Assessment methods
Colloquium, in which successful participation in aforementioned dialogues will be taken into account.
