Course objectives
The goal of the course is to understand basic typology of architectural tasks - sacral and secular architecture with furthre detailed structure. The student will work with special texts by historians of architecture (Wittkower, Panofsky, Baxandall, Onians ad.), that will show theme various methodological approaches. This focus should support critical thinking of the students.

  • Basic interpretative texts: Michale Baxandall, Patterns of Intentions Erwin Panofsky, Gothic Architecture and Scholasticism Rudolf Wittkower, Architectural principles in the Age of Humanism, London 1949 John Onians, Bearers of Meaning. The Classical Orders in Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance Charles Burroughs, The Italian Renaissance Palace facade.
