Course objectives
The course is designed for students of any degree, who are interested in critique and editorial work, and who want to improve his\her ability to formulate thoughts and ideas, especially about contemporary theatre and dance. The cultivation of student’s written expression will be also emphasised. Different aspects of editorial work will be demonstrated on exclusive examples of two theatre periodicals: online periodical Mloki and printed periodical Kod. Students should learn, how the financial support could be obtained and what roles and responsibilities editors have. During one lesson, the panel discussion with young Czech and Slovak critiques shall take place, which should provide expert view on theatre critique problematics. The graduate of the course Kritické theatrum – Reflexe divadla a kritická praxe should be able to express in writing his opinion regarding watched performances and should be familiar with basic subjects of theatre critique. Active participation, willingness and ability to discuss, and interest in theatre problematics are expected from the participants of the course. The participants will write two shorter reviews of chosen theatre or dance performance during the term. He\She will also write one standard review of freely chosen theatre or dance performance. The review will be edited and published by Kritické theatrum. The course will be taught in Czech.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Předmět je zaměřen z části teoreticky a z části prakticky. Během semestru se budou za prvé diskutovat vybraná zásadní témata týkající se kritiky divadla, za druhé budou účastníci zkoušet psaní kratších texů a reflexi divadelního zážitku v praxi prostřednictvím stylistických cvičení. Vedle klasických přístupů k reflexi budou mít účastníci možnost si vyzkoušet i experimentálnější metody, jak přistoupit k reflexi divadla. Poslední tematický okruh je věnován setkání a diskuzi s pozvanými hosty z oboru divadelní kritiky. Následující výčet bodů neodpovídá lineární struktuře semináře, ale představuje jednotlivé tematické bloky, z nichž kurz sestává. • 1. Redakční a kritická teorie a praxe (seminární část s Mgr. Katarínou Cvečkovou, redaktorkou časopisu kod a šéfredaktorkou online časopisu Mloki) • 2. Co a jak psát o současném divadle a tanci a proč je reflexe umění důležitá? (metodika reflexe a psaní, různorodé přístupy) • 3. Pozice kritika ve společnosti a možnosti uplatnění • 4. Stylistická cvičení • 5. Experimentální reflexe divadla a tance • 6. Společná návštěva divadla a diskuse o shlédnutém představení v restauračním zařízení • 7. Diskuze o dvou vlastních textech napsaných na začátku a na konci semestru podpořená zpětnou vazbou zkušenějších recenzentek • 8. Setkání a panelová diskuze s mladými profesionálními kritiky

Diskuze nad vybranými tématy a diskuze s hosty, stylistická cvičení, písemná cvičení, kreativní přístup k reflexi divadla, vytvoření dvou kratších textů, drobné domácí úkoly spojené s reflexí divadla (čtení, psaní, praktické úkoly)
Assessment methods (in Czech)
U účastníků semináře se předpokládá aktivní účast, plnění drobných domácích úkolů spojených s reflexí divadla (čtení, psaní, praktické úkoly), příprava dvou kratších recenzí na začátku a před koncem semestru a vypracování jedné recenze pro Kritické theatrum (max. 2500 znaků).
