Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to make students familiar with main traits of Ingardens theory of the work of art. Ingardens theory has important implications for the philosophical discussion between idealism and realism. Students will acquire not only a detailed knowledge of Ingardens conception of the literary work of art, but also basic knowldge of Ingardens estetics as a whole as well as a knowledge of its phenomenological foundation. The understanding of Ingardens exemplary phenomenological analyses of various aspects of the literary work of art should help students to develop their own ability to analyse esthetic phenomena with adequate philosophical precision, clarity and depth. Students will display and practise this ability in their seminar paper.
