Course objectives
The course in European Cultural Studies deals with issues in the history of culture and art with particular reference to the adoption, interaction and interpenetration of cultural, social, linguistic and national identities in the European region. More details in the learning outcomes section.
Learning outcomes
The history of European art does not unfold continuously, but rather in fractures, caesuras. We think of the deepest fractures, which are expressions of social, religious or political tensions, as revolutions. The aim of the course is to present selected profound ruptures in the course of art history, always accompanied by a selected film illustration. It will help the ideal graduate to gain some overall, yet plastic view of European culture and history in the characteristics of the periods featured.
