Since most of the literature on this topic is in foreign languages, the knowledge of a foreign language (English or German) is essential for participating in this course.

Course objectives
The course is the entry into the study of ethnicity; it will introduce the basic terminology and methodological approaches, significant concepts and research in the realm of ethnic studies to the students
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to define the basic terms (ethnic group, ethnicity, nation, nationality). They should be able to distinguish and analyse trends in research into the ethnicity theory.
