Course objectives
The Romanian New Wave is the most agile film movement present in the international festival circuit since 2001 to present days. Although its revelation resembles a miracle, this phenomenon follows development of Romanian cinema of previous decades. The course is focused on the history of Romanian cinema since its beginnings to present days. A special attention will be devoted to the era of Nicolae Ceauşescu, to propaganda films, so called national film epopee (epopeea naţională cinematografică), genre production, banned films and so called flood generation of the 70ies. We will approach the situation of Romanian cinema after December Revolution of 1989, the birth of the New Wave, and its successes. The starting point of view will be Czech and Slovak experience with Romanian films during the last sixty years.
