Course objectives
The lectures will consist of a theoretical and practical part. Based on a series of case studies, the theoretical part will introduce the main topics of the research paradigm called "new cinema history", its fields of research and methodological approaches. The practical part will work with the database of the Cinematic Brno. It will serve as a work platform for a set of exercises introducing selected tools and methods of data analysis applied in the research of the history of local cinema culture.
Learning outcomes
Students will acquire basic knowledge of research approaches used within the new cinema history paradigm. Moreover, they will learn selected methods of historical data collection and analysis, as for example the quantitative analysis of cinema programmes, spatial analysis and map visualisation or quantitative and qualitative analysis of oral history.
