Course objectives
The course aims to develop deeper knowledge about czech cinematic industry during the interwar period with special emphasis on the production of fiction films and contemporary system of production. With its the the course is connected to the Dějiny české kinematografie I, but it is concerned only about period between two world wars, which is examined in bigger depth. The structure of the seminar will be divided in more specific topics which could influenced contemporary production system - the problematics of the cinema of small nation, the mode of production, external interventions to the production system and planning of the production. Ale of these areas will be combined together in more general question of forming of stable and systematic film production. More specifically the seminar lectures will be concerned about the problematics of production cycles and trends within the circumstances of czech interwar cinema. The lecture will consist of the combination of frontal lectures, discussion about the given reading and fulfilling given tasks. Final criteria of evaluation will be based on the final written essay.
Learning outcomes
After finishing this course
- students will be able to orientate themselves in the development of Czech cinematic industry during the interwar period
- students will get te knowledge about the Czech production system, planning of the production, connections of cinema to other media industries, external interventions to the cinema
- students will know how to use analytical tools necessary for analysing production systems.
Syllabus
  • The course will consis of meetings base on the frontal instructions, discusion about the obligatory literature and given tasks. The course will be divided in 6 topics:
  • - the cinema of small nation
  • - the mode of production
  • - planning of film production
  • - external interventions
  • - distribution
  • - connections to other media industries
  • Each of these topics will be given 2 sessions - first of them will combine frontal teaching and discussionm, second one will consist of discussion over the given reading and given tasks.
