Course objectives
The optional course « French as professional language » is implemented by the Masaryk University in partnership with IBM CIC Brno and the French Institute of Prague. Its main goal is to make students discover a pragmatic French language used in the everyday life in a French environment. The course lasts during the spring term of the academic year 2018/2019 (6 sessions, 90 minutes each). Two types of courses: -9 language sessions specialized in “Professional French” -3 practical workshops relating to soft and hard skills needed in IT services environment
Learning outcomes
• Be able to interact in a professional environment (interview, discussions with professionals etc.) • Be able to participate in a debate and to present a precise and structured opinion on a professional topic • Develop new skills in redaction of professional documents • Acquire technics to write a proper CV and cover letter in French • Acquire sociocultural knowledge to evolve in a French-speaking business environment • Acquire knowledge and skills in 3 fields: corporate culture, processes in service environment, client relationship management

Teaching methods
French courses: Students should prepare each session with the handbook Affaires.com (provided by IBM). They should be able to use their knowledge during the workshop (simulations of professional situations). Other courses: Each session will start with a dynamic presentation of the topic by the workshop leader. Each topic will be discussed and followed by practical applications and simulations of professional situations.
Assessment methods
French courses: One written exam at the end of the semester. One oral exam at the end of the semester (job interview). Practical workshops: One oral exam will be organized at the end of the semester: the student will pick one question relating to treated subjects; she/he will have 10 minutes preparation and 10 minutes to reply to the question in front of the jury. Students should successfully pass finale exams to enroll in the second semester of this course.
