Course objectives
French modern and postmodern prose and theater in 19th and 20th centuries: the stress will be put on new narrative conceptions and on the ideological and axiological tranformations.

  • 1. Traditional and subjective narration (Balzac, Stendhal, Flaubert, Zola) 2. Subjectif narrator (Dujardin, Proust) 3. New status of the fiction and its consequences (Barres, Gide, Malraux, Saint-Exupéry, Bernanos, Mauriac, Jarry, Cocteau) 4. Cmmitted and uncommitted literature: existentialism, hussards 5. Nouveau roman and nouveau nouveau roman 6. Oulipo and posmodern novel 7. Theatre in 20th century
