Course objectives
The course aims to look at the motivations of the creators of the Zbraslav Chronicles, Ota of Durynska and Petr Žitavský
Determining their authorship for different sections of this work
Finding the socio-cultural background of the authors and how that makes its way into their narrative strategies
On the basis of this course students will be able to: interpret the Zbraslav Chronicles not only as a historical, but principally as a literary work, as a legend of Wenceslas II, the founder of the monastery.
Apply this knowledge against the “universally acknowledged” interpretation of events written in the hitherto uncritically received chronicle texts.
