Course objectives
This course is concerned with the “death and immortalisation” of noblemen in the Early Modern Age. It looks at the period’s attitudes towards and perception of death, funeral arrangements, funeral ceremonies, funeral orations, and tombstone and sepulchral art. There is a methodological bias towards a history of attitudes and historical anthropology.
