Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide basic orientation in both theoretical and practical problems of history of music in the early modern period and to create the qualification for analytical and critical work with sources, repertory, special literature and sounding music.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain the music repertoire from the early modern period.
Syllabus
  • 1) History of composition - twilight of the technique of cantus firmus
  • 2) Moteto type and crystallization of vocal polyphony
  • 3) Madrigal type as a representative of change of the relation music - word
  • 4) Metamorphoses of types and forms of music of 15th and 16th centuries - from Dufay to Monteverdi
