Course objectives
The course extends knowledge of Italian modern literature and literary criticism. It is taught every two years. Its specific content is regularly updated.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- analyze literary texts in terms of form and content;
- have a basic idea of the main trends of the Italian literary critique of the 20th century.
- understand the principles of the genesis of a literary work.
Syllabus
  • Commented reading of works by Italian authors of the 19th and 20th centuries. Fiction and Literary Criticism.
  • One possible thematic focus:
  • Italian historical novel in the era of Romanticism and risorgimenta.
  • Alessandro Manzoni - I promessi sposi, Adelchi, Sul romanticismo.
  • Massimo d'Azeglio, Tommaso Grossi, Francesco Domenico Guerrazzi,Ippolito Nievo, Giuseppe Rovani, Federico De Roberto, Enrico Costa).
  • Italian opera of the 19th century - historical themes.
