Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with various approaches to the concept of information and theories of information emerging in various fields. The concept of information is explained from the perspective of psychology, biology, physics, cognitive sciences, computer science and artificial intelligence, communication studies, cybernetics and documentation science. Particular attention is paid to information in cyberspace, causing the proflection of our identity.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the graduate should be able:
- to describe basic theories of information
- to compare different concepts of information
- to identify branches of knowledge from which was information science developed
- describe the impact of information technology on the formation of personal identity
- to analyze the threats to our identity in cyberspace
- to describe problems with the professional identity of information workers
