Course objectives
The course develops skills and competences of librarians in the field of participation in educational activities of libraries. Students will learn how to organize, prepare and practically realize educational activities in the context of memory institutions under the mentoring of teachers and librarians from practice.
Learning outcomes
Student is able to:
- identify the educational needs of the target group
- propose appropriate educational activity
- set relevant educational objectives
- to organize and implement educational activities in practice
- ensure the marketing of activities in cooperation with the institution
- evaluate the course and impacts of educational activity
Syllabus
  • For the spring 2023 semester, the real environment for students' activities will be the Knihovna na Křižovatka, an experimental workplace of KISku. Topics offered to students for semester activity in small teams (or individually):
  • 1. teaching program in the educational activities of the library: - cooperation with colleagues in the library on teaching activities within the library's information education for students and also within the teaching of information skills at the departments of FF MU or PdF MU - independent management of sub-parts of teaching under the supervision of a mentor-teaching librarian - evaluation of activities within the mentoring program
  • 2. Area of ​​environmental education programs - ascertaining public demand; preparation of environmental programs, ecological activities for primary school pupils; - finding grant incentives;
  • 3. Bookstart - the possibility of organization of bookstart activities by KISK students; - determining the interest of users; - preparation and organization of programs for mothers, small children, etc.
  • 4. Reading clubs - preparation and implementation of leisure activities for children from the local primary school; - use of the methodology of the New School o.p.s.
  • 5. Clubs for seniors - demand detection, promotion, preparation of pilot programs
  • 6. Thematic maps - creation for different target groups; - processing, for example, in the form of a mind map

Teaching methods
The course takes place in a practical form.
Activities in the Library at Křižovatka Based on familiarization with the current state, the student will conduct a search for news in the field of information education/education. It proposes an update (thematic, methodological, technological).
During the semester, the student works on one or two teaching units. Distance learning (webinars, online workshops) is also considered.
The culmination of the course will be taking over part of the presentation and teaching in the last lesson, including the own preparation of materials, etc. Feedback will be an integral part of the entire process.
In smaller teams, students in cooperation with librarians prepare and implement educational activities for readers and visitors of the institution. Students consult their project with the subject teachers. At the beginning and end of the semester, there will be a joint organizational and informative hour.

Credit conditions:
- prepare or realize the selected activity according to a specific assignment
- have a positive assessment of the activity by the institution for which the activity originated
- reflection of work with teachers and librarians
