Course objectives
The course is devoted to editorial themes, its theoretical principles and practical tasks. Attention is also paid to the historical perspective, textual criticism and its development. Different types of editions are interpreted, attention is paid to critical editions, popular editions, school editions etc. Selected book series, especially from modern Czech book publishers (major publishing houses etc.), are discussed. In the course, mostly Czech themes are treated, but foreign parallels and inspirations are also comprised.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course students
- will understand editorial issues in history and at present;
- may take part in academic editing of books;
- will focus on books like anthologies, selected or collected writings, may interpret them and to solve specific tasks.
Syllabus
  • Defining of the theme: Editorial issues in the history of literature and culture; its importance and scope.
  • Editorial issues in the context of information science and library studies.
  • Some specific editorial issues in the history of Czech literature.
  • Selected individual tasks: analyzing of selected editorial projects, critical reflection of their solutions.
  • Individual and joint work on editing tasks, including homework and classroom work.
