Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to define selected phenomenons of the Japanese language; explain differences between Japanese and Czech, Slovak or English language on various plans with respect to both synchronic and diachronic point of view; apply his previous knowledge in metalinguistic approach to modern Japanese; distinguish the Japanese linguistics and some specifics of the Japanese language; formulate basic ideas about the relation between the system of language and culture; judge the extent of applicability of general linguistic theories to a description of Japanese language.

Teaching methods
Lecture with discussions on the selected topic. The base of the class is students' knowledge of Japanese language, as well as other languages.
Assessment methods
Final paper on selected topic. Attendance of at least 70 % of classes is required.
