Course objectives
Having completed the course, the students are able to describe the Balkan minorities in the Czech Republic, their origins, history and, above all, the situation after 1989, the most important parameters of their present ethnicity and identity, the relations with the Czech majority, and to compare the minorities and evaluate the basic sources and scientific literature concerning the topic.
Learning outcomes
By absolving this course, students will gain knowledge about the Balkan minorities in Czech Republic and basic literature concerning this topic. Students will be also able to characterize specifics and main parameters of their current ethnicity and identity and the level of inclusion.

  • 1. Characteristics of Balkan minorities in Czech Republic: quantitative, historical, geographical, language, religious, educational, professional and other. Romanians, Bosnians.
  • 2.Migration. Albanians.
  • 3. Ethnostatistics. Serbians.
  • 4. Origin of ethnic minorities. Territorial characteristics of minorities. Croatians.
  • 5. Ethnocultural changes in ethnic minorities. Bulgarians.
  • 6. Cultures of ethnical minority. Greeks.
  • 7. Minorities and the state. Field research of minorities. Macedonians.
