Course objectives
The main goal of this subject is that students acquire communicative competence in Catalan in all the aspects concerning written language. At the end of the course, students should be able to produce both academic and non-academic texts corresponding to A2 in the CEFR. At the same time, the subject will focus on written comprehension of different kinds of texts --which will be always related to aspects of Catalan society, culture and literature.
Syllabus
  • The course will be divided in 8 thematic units which will concern different textual typologies. They will also be linked to the main vocabulary and grammar that will be taught in other subjects of the same program. 1. Personal letters. 2. Descriptive texts: general characterization of people, objects and places. 3. CV and cover letters. 4. Newspaper's articles. 5. Narratives: telling stories, events and summing up. 6. Opinion: expressing agreement and disagreement, giving opinions in informal contexts. 7. Dialogs in written communication 7.1. Conventional marks regarding dialogs in Catalan. 7.2. Interviews 7.3. Polls, surveys and questionnaires 7.4. Interrogation 8. Summaries

Teaching methods
Sessions will consist of theoretical parts (where information concerning the process of writing will be presented) and practical parts (where students will work on different activities so as to be able to produce the different essays).
