Course objectives
Student will be able to: - understand paragraph-length utterances pertaining to a wide range of topics relating to daily and academic life. - sustain conversation in coherent paragraphs - identify key facts and some details in descriptive material on daily life. - write essays of 400-500 characters, comprising at least 3 paragraphs, dealing with topics related to the content of the lesson texts studied in class
Learning outcomes
【Listening】 Able to understand paragraph-length utterances pertaining to a wide range of topics relating to daily and academic life. 【Speaking】 Able to sustain conversation in coherent paragraphs. Able to handle successfully a wide range of task. Able to narrate, describe, compare and contrast. 【Reading】 Able to identify a moderate number of character components and high-frequency characters in areas of immediate need. Able to identify key facts and some details in descriptive material on daily life. Able to get the gist of semi-authentic and simple authentic Chinese texts on known topics. 【Writing】 Able to take notes in some detail. Can write notes and simple letters, brief synopses, summaries and biographical data such as work and school experience. Able to write essays of 400-500 characters, comprising at least 3 paragraphs, dealing with topics related to the content of the lesson texts studied in class.

Assessment methods
Qualification of Attending Final Exam and Grading 【Assignment】 Student should hand in ALL of the homework. Homework which doesn’t match the regulations will be regarded as missing delivery. (Regulation: Homework should be handed in on time; only hand-writing is accepted; score should be 80% above) 【Small Test】 The average of score of ALL of the small tests should be at least 80%. 【Presentation】 The score of presentation should be at least 70%. 【Absence】 Three times of absence are allowed; however, if student reaches the 4th time of absence, he/she won’t be allowed to attend final exam. ONLY the students following the rules above are allowed to attend final exam. 【Final Exam】 70% above: PASS lower than 70%: Fail
