Course objectives
The aim of the course is to clarify the concept of kinship, family, patriarchy, gender and marriage in traditional Chinese society. My next intention is to show how the traditional cultural patterns were modified in contemporary Chinese society.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students should understand the cultural characteristics of a Chinese family, incl. its spiritual values, applicable to the society as a whole. They will be able to recognize analogies within the present Chinese society, as well as to judge its possible (dis)continuity.
