Cíle předmětu
Students will create their own small research project on a topic in regard to "invisible" Asia in Brno. The lecturer will introduce a general subject area and allow students to narrow their focus on their own within that general subject. Under the guidance of the lecturer, the students will develop their own research projects.
Výstupy z učení
After completing the course, students will be able to - develop their own research project - evaluate and determine sources for their own project - demonstrate their ability to compile, assess, and analyze information and come to a new conclusion
Osnova
  • Building up on an introduction on the topic during the first few classes, a first field work will be conducted in Brno. On the approx. two-hour first field trip, the students will “stroll around” Brno incl. visiting (Asian) supermarkets, smaller Asian shops, restaurants, etc. to get their first impression on how to do participant observation. In the next class, the students will briefly present their impressions and their ideas about a small research project. Within the next two classes, individual research questions and hypotheses will be formulated, first in small groups, then discussed in in the plenum. Afterwards, according to the students’ major research interests, a second field trip will be organized. As one of the students’ following-up assessments, they should conduct field work on their own (with my support and guidance) according to their individual small research project – including participant observation and conducting interviews. In the following weekly classes, we will discuss the findings in groups. In the end, the students will present their (preliminary) findings; additionally, any problems which have occurred during their research will be discussed.
