Cíle předmětu
This course introduces the basics of translation studies to Chinese majors with Chinese as their second language. The course will be co-taught by Dr. Wei-lun Lu (Center for Chinese Studies, Masaryk University) and Prof. Chin-chin Tseng (Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, National Taiwan Normal University). The course will cover the following issues: English to Chinese multimedia translation training, the form-focused method designed for non-native speakers of Chinese who want to improve their Chinese spoken grammar through multimedia theme-based translation materials, and how to use translation materials for contrastive linguistic and cultural research. In addition to translation studies, the students will also develop the awareness of the characteristics of Taiwan Mandarin and will improve skills at all levels, including vocabulary, grammar, tone, stress and tone sandhi, intonation & final particles. In addition, there will be a mini project and class work on translation throughout the class periods. Practical language-learning skills and resources such as learning Chinese from watching movies, music videos, and TED talks will also be introduced.
