Course objectives
The content of this course will try to observe the beginnings of the Czech and European hagiographic and historiographic literature and trends in their evolution. First half of the course (6 sessions) deals with three types oh martyrologic literature (acta, passiones, vitae) and theit literary analysis. Second part of the course (6 sessions) deals with chronicles of the High Middle Ages in Europe and Bohemia. Large part of each session will include reading and analysis of selected authors (Beda Venerabilis, Regino from Prüm, Cosmas Pragensis, Legenda Christiani etc.).
